Changing the FOV in Battlefield Bad Company 2

There are talk about changing the FOV in Battlefield Bad Company 2. In fact, here is a BFBC2 FOV calculator.

It seems that BFBC2 FOV settings uses vertical FOV. So, in order to apply horizontal FOV, the vertical FOV must be calculated.

That seems to mean if you increase the horizontal FOV, the setting will also increase the vertical FOV. Logically thinking, it means that it will make everything smaller on your screen, as if your character is standing further away. Is that so?

I wish there are two screenshots of different FOV so that we can see the difference before fussing around with the settings.
