Where to put the Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated Server configuration file?As I mentioned in the other thread, I've been attempting to configure the Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated Server for a collaborative campaign. The first thing that needs to be done is to setup the configuration file. It's easy to determine that the server configuration file is named server.cfg and what commands should go into it. There are tons of web sites that list the commands. In fact, there are many automated and online tools to help you generate server configuration files. However, I could not find one that tells me EXACTLY where to place the file. It turns out that there are many distributions of Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. Each distribution sets up the directory structure differently. Plus, there are Source Dedicated Servers that runs on Windows or Linux. To keep their instructions generic, they became very cryptic and very difficult to determine where server.cfg should go. I happen to have the Valve Steam for Windows distribution. I download all of the games and servers online. After doing quite a bit of experimentation, I determined the exact directory location for server.cfg . . . c:\program files\Steam\SteamApps\[Account Name]\source dedicated server\cstrike\cfg\server.cfg Note that the "[Account Name]" directory is named after your account name, not a literal directory name. When I first launched the Source Dedicated Server for Counter-Strike: Source, the cfg directory did not exist. I had to create it myself and place the server.cfg within. Chieh Cheng You'll have to start the dedicated server at least once for the "%SystemDrive%\program files\Steam\SteamApps\[Account Name]\source dedicated server\" directory to show up. The "cstrike" directory will get created the first time you start a Counter-Strike: Source dedicated server. You'll have to create the "cfg" directory yourself. Chieh Cheng
