Disassembling the Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS Notebook

To disassemble the Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS notebook, turn it upside-down and remove the 9 screws identified by the arrows (see photo below).

After removing the battery, remove the hinge caps at the rear of the notebook. The caps are plastic snap-ons. The photo below shows one of the hinge cap.

Now you can lift the keyboard and touch-pad off the notebook. But do it slowly, there are several ribbon cables that you must detach. The first ribbon cable is in front, by the PCMCIA port as shown in photo below.

At the rear of the notebook, there are two larger ribbon cables (shown in photo below). Detach both ribbon cables and you can lift the upper panel away.

THANK YOU! i was stumped and apprehensive about replacing my hard drive. I went to this alternative site under related links and my life was good again: Disassembling the Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS Notebook. I have a pcg-z505hs. i could not figure out those plastic end hinge caps. your site was the exact solution and told me everything i needed to know. most especially:

"You really need to get these off, and I remember how scared I was to break them in the process. DO NOT use sharp objects, like a knife, to pry them off! All you need are your fingernails, really. Start prying on one end, then go around the perimeter, and pry all around, while pulling on that sucker."

Just got a Sony PCG-505R/RS/RX and the inside looks identical to the Sony PCG-505TS SuperSlim notebook. The method for disassembly is exactly the same as well.

Nice instructions. Is the procedure the same for the Vaio model VGN-FJ370? I need to replace my noisy fan and possibly the dvd drive.

Probably not. It's not the same form-factor. I just recently acquired the Sony VAIO PCG-505VX. Even though it's the same form-factor, the disassembly method is completely different. Best case is that your notebook has some similarities. You'll have to carefully give it a try on your computer.

Great article - I just saved a PCG-505TX from being thrown away, and thanks to your guide had the confidence to remove the hinge caps!
