Prevent Windows Messenger from Starting on Boot

Companies are doing a little too much nowadays trying to gain a little bit of market share advantage over its competitors. A good example is Microsoft Windows XP. When it starts, it loads up Windows Messenger by default. Perhaps to win you over to use its instant messaging service.

Now, I don't use Windows Messenger for instant messaging, even if I do, I don't want it to start up all the time. Especially on my game machine, where I want to save every bit of processing power for owning other people in FPS or whatever other games I want to play.

Microsoft doesn't make it friendly for you to prevent Windows Messenger from starting either. To do so, you'll have to use Registry Editor and delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\MSMSGS" from the registry database. I think just mentioning the Registry Editor turns off 90% of the Windows user out there.

So I'm gonna make it easy on you, and easy on myself in the future. I have attached a registry file that you can download below. After downloading it, double-click on the file. Windows will ask you, "Are you sure you want to add the information in [file path] to the registry?" Click the "Yes" button. And you are all done. Windows Messenger won't start on the next boot-up.
