Windows 8 Startup Folder

Windows 8 has gotten rid of the "Start" menu that has been a core functionality since Windows 95 (Chicago). Instead, "Metro" has replaced the "Start" menu in Windows 8. Along with the disappearing of the "Start" menu, Windows 8 users have now lost the "Startup" folder. In the past, you simply drag whatever shortcut you'd like to launch on Windows boot into the "Startup" folder. But with Windows 8, that folder has disappeared.

The good news is that the "Startup" folder actually still exist on Windows 8. It's just hidden. The even better news is that whatever shortcut is in the "Startup" folder will still launch on Windows 8 boot-up.

The location of the "Startup" folder is now at "[system drive]\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup". You can drag any shortcut you want to start into that directory and they will be launched on boot. It's worthwhile to make a shortcut to the "Startup" folder and put it somewhere convenient (like the desktop).
