Windows Blurry and Fuzzy on High Resolution Display

I now have 1920x1080 on a 15" display. This is the display that came with my Lenovo Y50 gaming laptop, which serves as my software development machine more so than a gaming machine. It's a big step upward from the 1366x768 display on the Asus G46vw, which has been my primary development machine for a while. With this step up, I had expected to be able to fit a lot more windows on the screen to ease my development effort.

But I was rather disappointed to find that most of the windows are being displayed at the same size that it was on the lower resolution screen. Even worse was the fact that the windows are blurry and fuzzy. It was obvious that windows was playing some tricks to enlarge the small windows to larger size so that they are easier to read.

For many folks, that's probably a blessing. Because they care more about not seeing the individual pixels and being able to read the text. For a software developer guru, like me, I want to see the actual windows rendered 1:1 to the actual screen resolution. Can you imagine my horror when I try to take a screen shot of my Android app for marketing purpose to see the screen shot is blurry, fuzzy, and has tons of aliasing artifacts. Ok, if you are a regular consumer, you probably don't understand what I just said... but this blurry display nonsense, just doesn't cut it.

I found a way to keep Windows from up sampling all windows:

Right click on the desktop.
Select "Screen resolution" from the pop-up menu.
Click on "Make text and other items larger or smaller".
Under "Change the size of all items", move the slider to "Smaller" (see screen shot below).

There! Now you can use your high resolution display as intended to be used by a guru... perhaps, with squinting eyes.
