Configure Nvidia Shield to Move Apps to microSD Card

Earlier, I reported that Nvidia Shield is a Better Buy Than Nvidia Shield Pro, because instead of paying a premium on the 500 GB hard drive in the Nvidia Shield Pro, you can just plug an external 500 GB hard drive into the USB port. After getting the Nvidia Shield for my living room, I have found that you can just expand it with a huge microSD Card. However, after plugging in the microSD Card, Nvidia Shield will not automatically move apps and data to the microSD Card. In this article, I will show you how to configure the Nvidia shield so that it can take advantage of your expanded storage space.

  1. From the home screen, navigate to "Settings".
  2. Navigate to "Storage & reset".
  3. Select "SD card" (make sure it says mounted).
  4. Select "automatically move apps to SD card.
  5. Select to "Use the entire card" or "Use up to 75%" or "Use up to 50%". The default setting is "Off".
  6. Now you are done and can go back to the home screen.
