Real-Estate MLS Listing Hack

Lately, I've been searching for properties to buy. And I have been looking at MLS listings for two years now . . . I found that Yahoo! Real Estate has a really easy to search interface based on city, state, zip, price, home, rental, and many other criterias. However, over time, it has became stricter and stricter on what information the public can see.

For example, you have to register to see photos, property description, and others. Even after registering, there are some problems with the system where I still can't see those information, or even get to the property listing you want.

So it turned out that MRMLS (Multi-Regional Multiple Listing Service) - a service for realtors and agents - provide listing services. Normally, you, as an individual, can't get access to the listing data until an agent is contacted and started forwarding MLS listings to you. However, I have figure out how to modify the URL so that anyone can see the public listing for a property.

The URL for a property listing is

http://www.imrmls.com/servlet/lFullDetail?ml=xxxxxxx&pt=RES

Copy and paste the above URL into your Internet browser. Then replace the "xxxxxxx" with the "MLS #" found on the Yahoo! Real Estate property listing (it's in the "Property" box). Press return and you'll see the listing, map, photos, description, etc.

If you use Firefox, you can use Greasemonkey to add the imrmls link directly on the Yahoo page.

Check out greasemonkey and Dive Into Greasemonkey for details.

Cool! I just installed Greasemonkey 0.2.6! Gonna have to try this out. You wouldn't already have a script written for MRMLS hack, would you?

Works for me, Dan. What error did you get? And what MLS number did you use?

I search zip 32826 for $300K with 5 BR, 2 BATH and used the top entry. I tried using 4676298 and O4676298. Both failed. I got: No Matching Properties!
Please hit back and try again. This is the URL I used:

http://www.imrmls.com/servlet/lFullDetail?ml=4676298&pt=RES
and this is what I got returned:
http://209.11.249.6/servlet/lFullDetail?ml=4676298&pt=RES

Don't know why, Dan. Maybe the service only works for Southern California. Or maybe it just doesn't work with Orlando, Florida.

Does anyone know how to hack into the MLS Listings web site and have it work for orlando FL?
