Improve RF Range on the idrive for TorqueMasterI have an I-drive torquemaster that is about 6 years old. When the unit had been installed for about a year, I had called Wayne-Dalton complaining about the short range of the RF transmitter...about 15 feet. They sent me a replacement panel board which I didn't use since by that time I had replaced the antennae in the old board with a longer wire that increased the range to about 25 feet. This last week I took the operator off to replace the motor. In the process, I installed the new circuit board because, as luck would have it, the antennae broke off the old one. The new circuit board has a very good RF range (about 75 feet). The problem is, there seems to be some difficulty in the logic circuits. When I run the install routine, the door raises to its full position and remains there. It does not return to the closed position nor recycle to the open position as it is supposed to do. All of the rf remote controllers program to the new board and and seem to communicate with the board but the circuit board will not open nor close the door on command. The new circuit board is receiving the signals properly as indicated by the beeping...just no door action. I replaced the new circuit board with the old one (with the busted antennae). Works perfectly, except my transmission range is now 6 feet. Dave How about soldering a new wire onto the old circuit board? The antenna is just a simple wire. You can try different length to change the distance. Do you have other metal things around the idrive that may be interfering with the antenna. It's strange that it is so insensitive. My idrive can sense the remote from two houses away. Chieh Cheng I did re-solder the wire back on. Problem with these circuit boards is that you can break the printed circuit connection very easily. The second soldering didn't make a connection. I'd really like to get the new board to work. I was hoping someone knew a work around on the failure of the board to initiate a opening and closing sequence. Dave My only guess to why the door won't come down with the new board is that there is a loose or faulty connection to the door trip beam sensors. Maybe check the wiring and make sure they are connected to the new board. If all of the wiring checks out, then check the new circuit board to see if there is a broken trace to these sensors and use a circuit trace pen to repair. Chieh Cheng mmmm...that is an interesting suggestion. I don't have trip beam sensors installed. I wonder if there is a disabling jumper on the new board that I need to disable. I'll check it out. Dave I give up! The new circuit board is not going to cooperate. I managed to get a new antenna soldered onto the old board, which works, but transmitter range is still poor...about 25 feet. Dave Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with the new board. Just curious, how did you bypass the trip sensors on the old board. Did you try bypassing the trip sensor on the new board using the same method and still have the same problem? Chieh Cheng I didn't do the original install on the opener. I don't know how the trip sensor was by-passed. I've compared them side by side and can't see any differences. I think that is the problem with the new board. Dave I wonder if it was a simple bypass wire in the trip sensor connection ports. But I suspect you've already looked there and didn't see any wires or shorts. If it is the trip sensor, then it's probably just a matter of getting trip sensors at the hardware store and wire them up to the new board. Chieh Cheng FYI. I installed trip sensors.
