Airsoft vs. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

I have started playing airsoft since summer time. For those of you that don't know airsoft, it's a sport where you use life-like firearms that shoots plastic BB's. Because the gun are so realistic compared to the real firearm, the tactics and game play translates well into the real world.

When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive when on sale for less than four bucks on Steam, I picked up a copy to use for virtual training. After all, I used to love Counter-Strike: Source and I just thought the weapons and game play are so realistic.

But after playing airsoft for several month and using real SWAT tactics, I have come to realize some shortcomings in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Let's take a look at the screen shot below as an example comparison to airsoft. Noticed that I'm holding a MP7 with iron sights. By default, the MP7 is held at the hip. And, my god, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive puts a cross-hair in the middle of the screen. Do I get a cross-hair in real life? No.

In real life, such as in airsoft, I'd have to raise the MP7 up to my eyes and use the iron sights. Now to rub salt into the wound, in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, you can't use the iron sight on the MP7. What kind of logic is that?

Do you see real SWAT team members walk around an active shooter zone with their SMG at the hips? The answer is no, if you don't know. They walk in tactical formations where the gun's sight is raised to their eye level at all times.

So, although I can still use Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as a virtual training ground in many ways, using it to train with real weapons tactics is out of the question. Maybe the developers for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive should play some airsoft to bring the realism into the video game.
