Linux BF2 Dedicated Server Needs libstdc++.so.5

I just downloaded "bf2-linuxded-1.5.3153.0-installer.sh", which is the Battlefield 2 Linux Dedicated Server 1.5. After installing it on my Ubuntu computer, I ran it and got the following error message:

/home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Under /usr/lib, I found libstdc++.so.6. So I guess my Ubuntu system has a newer library than the one needed by the dedicated server.

I created a link from libstdc++.so.6 to libstdc++.so.5, but that didn't work either. The dedicated server showed the following error messages in this case:

/home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `CXXABI_1.2' not found (required by /home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2)
/home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2.2' not found (required by /home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2)
/home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2' not found (required by /home/FidoMushu/programs/bf2/bin/ia-32/bf2)

I'm now looking for alternative solutions.

Well, looks like it wasn't very hard to get libstdc++.so.5 installed on Ubuntu. From this "Battlefield 2 - Dedicated Server" thread, I found that I can simply install libstdc++.so.5 using this command:

sudo apt-get install libstdc++5

After installing libstdc++5, I had no problem running "start.sh".

The only question left . . . how well will this dedicated server run on my Linux laptop?

Too bad that libstdc++5 does not exist anymore in Ubuntu 10.04

Ugh. I'm on 10.04. I finally found the file here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/i386/libstdc++5/download

I downloaded it and the installer did the rest.
