F.E.A.R. - Coop Warfare 0.4 Crash
Wanting to play the coop version of FEAR, I downloaded and installed Coop Warfare 0.4 on top of my retail version of FEAR 1.07. Despite Coop Warfare 0.4 developer's effort of making the mod easy to install and run, every time I run it, FEAR just crash out to the Windows Desktop on load.
So, yesterday, I really want to try it out with my brother, so I played around with the files a little. It turned out that it is pretty easy to get around the crash.
First, create a new "AdditionalContent" directory in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR\Custom". For some reason, the retail version of FEAR doesn't create this directory when it installs. But my brother's FEAR Combat (free multiplayer version) does that directory (although empty).
Then copy "Coop-Warfare_0.4.Arch00" and "Coop-Warfare_0.4.archcfg" from "C:\Program Files\Sierra\FEAR" into the newly created "AdditionalContent" directory. You'll want to do the same on the client-side, unless you don't mind the client downloading all of the maps through your server.
Now host a game with the following new co-op maps and you're on your way to some mayham fun!
