League of Legends: Dominion Co-Op vs. AI are Filled with Farming Bots

When I'm not playing PvP with friends, I play intermediate Dominion co-op games to train and stay sharp. I've played it so much that I can pretty much guarantee 1st or, at least, 2nd place. But in the last few weeks, I've been losing a lot of Dominion co-op games. Even though I'm 1st place, I couldn't carry the team. The team is filled with newbies. I have thought that something is amiss, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

It wasn't until tonight, when another player pointed out that we are playing 2 vs. 5 that I started to examine our roster. Three of our "human" players has the "Ghost" and "Heal" spell. And they all have the "Bear Claw" summoner icon. And their names are composed of two words with a double digit number at the end. (Screen shot below shows three farm bots; real players are removed from the screen shot.) At one point, in the wee hour of the night, I looked for another Dominion co-op match and all four other "human" players were these farm bots.

That's the craziest thing I've seen. So, I arranged for an intermediate Summoner's Rift co-op game to see if it's just as bad over there. Surprisingly, there is no farm bots on that side.

In the past, Dominion farm bots are really basic and simple. They usually just stay at base, follow your character around, or walk around randomly. But the farm bots this past few weeks are actually really well developed. They capture point, group up for an attack, grab health points, and team work with you. If you recognize that they are bots and understand their algorithm, you can actually leverage it to help you beat Riot's AI.

Sadly, the farm bots really take the fun out of playing Dominion co-op. Will Riot do something about it? We'll see.

Thought I might try playing with four farm bots. Logged in on Thanksgiving. There was a patch. Then I signed up for a dominion game. Surprise, surprise, there were four other real players. Wow. Did Riot patch the farm bots away?

Looks like they came back the day after Thanksgiving. I guess their owner take a holiday, too.

Looks like Riot cleaned up the farm bots. Because I did not see any the last two nights.

Saw to farm bots last night. So I guess they come and go. Maybe they take vacation as well.

I got up early morning today. Thought I try a game or two. It turns out the farm bot shows up in hordes at around 6 AM PST. In two games, there were four other farm bots. It thought it was interesting to play with only bots and see if I can come up with a winning strategy. But in both cases I lost.

That's funny, TROUBLE66. Maybe the bots are really that good now! How did they do in your game?
