League of Legends: Is Ascension About Kills or About Capturing Relics?
The team that reaches 200 points first in the Ascension game mode wins the game. There are three ways to score points: 1) Champion kill scores 1 point. 2) Capturing a relic scores 3 points. 3) Killing a champion while ascended score 2 points. While you can theoretically win an Ascension game by killing enemy champions 200 times, in practice that is extremely difficult, if not impossible.
In the last few Ascension games I played, I scored over 20 kills. In the same game, another team mate also scored over 20 kills. Everyone else on the team scored less than 20 or less than 10 kills. But let's just assume that you have an all-star team where each person can score 20 kills. That means your team scored approximately 100 points out of a 200 points game. That's only 50 percent of the winning number. And in this case, we used a very optimistic, but rather unrealistic team score.
More realistically your team is going to score around 50 to 75 points combined from champion kills. So where does the other 125 points come from? Let's just assume your team can score 10 to 20 points killing enemy champions while ascended. That means over 100 remaining points comes from capturing relics.
In a way, you can say that capturing relics is more important than killing enemy champions. Killing champions is really just a bonus and helps you capture more relics.
