League of Legends: Maximizing IP and XP Boosts

Riot provides a variety of IP/XP boosts for summoners to acquire IP/XP quickly. The two major types of boosts are day-based or win-based. And depending on the type you purchase with Riot Points, you can maximize your IP/XP gain differently. But rule number one: you can get both day-based boost and win-based boost to truly maximize your gain.

PvP

You gain the most IP/XP when you win a normal or ranked PvP game. Therefore, the win-based boost is an excellent selection if you play a lot of PvP games. The day-base boost is better if you are very good in League of Legends and can guarantee more wins then loses. But due to the ELO system, it's more likely to be 50% win/loss ratio. Therefore, unless you have a lot of time to play League of Legends or want to maximize by using both type of boosts, it's better to stick to the win-based boost.

Co-op vs. AI

Although you get less IP and XP when you win an bot game than PvP game, you can actually come out on top with bot games. Unlike PvP game where the win/lost ratio is about 50%, you can get good at bot games to bring that ratio up close to 100%. Once you get close to winning every single intermediate bot game, you can use these games to maximize your IP/XP gain.

For win-based boost, it's best to play Summoner's Rift, because that's the map that gives you the highest IP/XP compared to Crystal Scar (Dominion). On the other hand, if you want to maximize the day-based boost, play Crystal Scar (Dominion). A Dominion game can be as short as 11 minutes. That's approximately five to six games an hours.

Remember that "Level 15+ Summoners are limited to 180 reward minutes per day." If you get close to that limit, be sure to switch over to PvP games. Otherwise, you'd just be wasting your hard-earned money.

Custom

For lower level summoners, the custom bot games can be a better playground, because you'll be able to control the playing field all by yourself. Because of the much smaller IP/XP reward, the boosts is only worthwhile here if you can guarantee winning every custom bot game you play and you can't guarantee the same in the Co-op vs. AI games. Put it another way: if you are sufficiently winning practically every game in Co-op vs. AI, then don't play custom games with boosts.

Keep in mind that "Summoners that are at least level 11 are limited to 6 custom game rewards per day." If you are above level 11 and you can only win custom games, then get the win-based boost. The day-based boost will not do you much good.

Given that a level 10 and lower summoner will probably take 30 minutes to an hours to win a Summoner's Rift custom game, the day based boost is only worth while if you can play for more than four hours a day and can guarantee winning every game. For most people, this situation is not worthwhile.
