Installing Bekin Wireless PDA Keyboard Software on PocketPC without using ActiveSync

Personally, I don't like to install too many unnecessary programs on my computer system. The more software installed, the slower Windows run and the more time I have to spend cleaning up later. ActiveSync is one of those programs that I don't want to install. ActiveSync is a program for synchronizing PocketPC PDA's to computers running the Windows operating system. Most of today's PDAs, like my Compaq iPAQ H3955, support storage cards. So I prefer to simply do all my transfers through the storage card. Unfortunately, many PocketPC software's installation program uses ActiveSync for installation.

The Belkin Wireless PDA Keyboard software is no different. However, I did find out a way to bypass the ActiveSync installation. The installation software is written quite well and allows you to install directly from the archive included on the CD-ROM. All you have to do is copy the "PPC" directory to the storage card, insert the storage card into the PDA, and click on the "wpdak.Arm 1100 (4K) v3.00.CAB" file in the PPC directory. The software will install itself.

The "PPC" directory contains the Belkin Wireless PDA Keyboard software for PocketPC 2002 and earlier. If you use PocketPC 2003, you'll need to copy the "PPC2003" folder instead. The "PPC2003" directory contains a file called "wpdak.MS.PocketPC.CAB" that I bet will install the software itself if clicked on the PDA. But I haven't tried the PocketPC 2003 version myself.
