Alliance P2P Hangs on Start-Up

I tried to install Alliance P2P 1.0.6 on my media center server today. But when I tried to start it, it hangs. You can see the splash screen string, but it's just blank white. And nothing happens forever. The media center is on a dual core computer running Windows 7.

I also tried install Alliance P2P 1.1.0 beta afterward. But it did the same thing. CPU load went up to around 60% to 70%.

Anyone seen this problem before?

I tried the 1.1.0 beta yesterday and it ran fine. But it was under Linux.

Running Java on my low end 24/7 server is a bit intensive. I am looking at other solutions with native clients.

One possibility is Direct Connect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Connect_(file_sharing)

One con with DC is that a hub / tracker must be running at all times, but there is no need to share keys with everyone. DC also doesn't support swarming (ie download from multiple sources). Still have to see how secure it is.

If I remember correctly, there is a pure Java version of Alliance, right? Maybe I should try that one instead. I'll see if I can give it a go.
