Booting the Same Hard Drive on Multiple Notebooks

Recently, my beloved Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS notebook computer died. It no longer turns on. Needing to get data off the hard drive, I pulled it out of the computer. I have another Sony VAIO PCG-748 notebook handy, so I swapped the hard drive into that computer. The hard drive had Ubuntu 5.1 installed.

When I booted up the computer, I had expected the boot up sequence to be full of error messages. After all, I tried the same with a hard disk with Windows operating system. All the drivers were missing, etc.

But, surprise! Ubuntu 5.1 booted up with no problem what so ever. It was the cleanest boot on a different computer that I have ever seen. Another thumb up for Linux.
