Headphone Output Only on HP DV6-3050US Notebook

I got myself a HP DV6-3050US notebook last week. It's a pretty advanced entertainment system. However, I've had trouble keeping the sound coming out of the headphone. Some apps insists on outputting via the notebook speakers.

See, I use the notebook purely as a desktop. It's all wired up to an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, trackball, programmable controller, microphone, and speakers. I used the headphone port for the external speakers. Theoretically, all the sounds should output via the headphone jack to the external speakers. But switching between apps causes the sound to come out of the external speakers some times, while sounds come out of the internal speakers other times. No amount of configuration tweaking made any difference.

Finally, I uninstalled the IDT software using the "Uninstall a program" in "Control Panel". After rebooting the computer, Windows 7 tried to install the sound card driver unsuccessfully. In "Device Manager", I found the failed sound driver (with exclamation mark). Right click on it and selecting "Properties", I then clicked on the "Update Driver..." button on the "Driver" tab. Windows 7 proceeded to install the IDT sound card driver automatically. After it installed the driver, the sound was fixed. Every application sent the sound to the external headphone jack.
