Linux on Intermec Norand 6642

I've got Debian Lenny and Etch running on this badboy, but NO
touchscreen what so ever. I have been trying but I can't seem to find
any information about the touchscreen. I even took the screen completely
out of the unit. I THINK its an ADC touchscreen, but nothing recognizes it.

Does Linux run decent on it? The 6642 is not a terribly fast computer. And with the bloated Linux nowadays. I don't know what performance you are going to get out of it. Windows 98 seems to run fairly fast on it. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to get Linux to work with the touch screen on this thing.

I said Debian, not Ubuntu. Try to run Ubuntu and you're screwed. Well
you could install Ubuntu base then add packages as you go. I installed
Debian base with debootstrap and I have X going; it's pretty snappy. I
have the modem working also. I hate Ubuntu because of it's bloat for one
reason(hate/love relationship, but I run only Debian). I haven't tried
Gnome or KDE on it yet, but both are too much for it. I like E17
personally(works fine on it) but I have lxde and openbox running fine on
it. My RAM is maxed out as well.

Seems strange posting on a 1 year old thread, but I've exhausted the internet's resources on the Intermec Pen*key 6642. I recently bought one on ebay with win98 installed and after some glitch/crash I was prompted to reinstall windows. After formatting it on another pc, I suddenly realized that there appeared to be no way to install it back on. Just wondering, how did you install linux on it, by which I mean how did you load the ISO without a CD drive, Floppy, or bootable USB?
