Rebuilding the Sony VAIO PCGA-BP52 Li-Ion notebook battery pack Attached Image: Chieh Cheng The method to rebuild the Sony BP52 battery pack is very similar to rebuilding the BP51 battery pack that is documented here. There are a few minor exceptions that I will document in this article. Chieh Cheng Unlike the BP51, the BP52 case is not only held together by glue, but also by two temper-proof screws. I managed to remove the temper-proof screws with a philip-headed screwdriver, some force, and some friction. I definitely did not want to put the temper-proof screws back, so I found two slightly bigger screws and had to re-tap the screw holes. See this article for some pictures and how I re-tapped the holes. Chieh Cheng Once the screws have been removed, the case can be pulled apart. But be careful, the battery cells in the BP52 are connected to the circuit board via wires, rather than connected directly to the board. The following picture shows the inside of the battery pack. Note and pay close attention to the polarity of the battery cells; the battery cells are not all facing the same direction! Attached Image: Chieh Cheng
