Splashtop -- Instant Internet!

I would switch on my netbook and sit there twiddling my thumbs waiting for the OS to boot up, the anti-virus modules to kick in and finally the browser to get up and running, when all I wanted was just to check my mail. Though it may take a minute or two, it was still a painful wait till Splashtop came along!

Splashtop is a 'instant' net access suite featuring several applications such as a Web Browser, a Music Player, a Photo Manager, a Skype client and the Splashtop Chat client - which can connect with ICQ, MSN or Windows Live, Yahoo, AOL or QQ instant messenger systems. This bouquet of apps is more than enough to take care of a majority of our daily internet usage.

Currently offered on several notebooks and netbooks from ASUS, HP, Lenovo and LG, Splashtop is pre-installed on the hard drive or in the on-board Flash memory. A small component of Splashtop is embedded in the BIOS of the PC, which boots up the RTOS almost instantaneously when you press the power-on button (or a special key on some PCs) and allows you to use all the Splashtop apps. You can also choose to continue and boot up the Windows or Linux OS. Splashtop connects to the net via the standard WiFi, LAN, xDSL, and cable.

Apart from allowing you to connect to the net in an instant, it is also safe as Splashtop is not vulnerable to the typical exploits aimed at the Windows OS. Once done with your online tasks, it is just as simple and fast to shut down your PC!
