StarOffice 9 vs OpenOffice 3StarOffice vs open office(ooo) Staroffice is a software suite much like open office. Both are made by Sun micro systems. And have features that mostly resemble each other. Star office is geared toward corporate life its a easy to use and straight forward. much like open office. Both products are so much alike they even share the same type of icons to identify themselves with. The biggest difference would the the support you get with staroffice and the filter for word perfect something open office doesn't have.Templates are something else open office doesn't come with. But what open office does have over star office 9 is the fact that is free for all. You don't have to buy anything and it is also open source. Meaning a public community can write templates , extension and add on for the program. Something that staroffice can't do withing the SUN company system. Star office ranges from twenty to forty dollars. making it a low price word processing system but not at all cheap. Not a cheap as free can be. So if your looking for something that as all the bells and whistles built in staroffice is more or less what your looking for. But if you like free and don't mind searching thought the web to find add on that you more than likely won't find with most software open office is for you. Both have a windows 97 word processing look to them but i think word 97 was also one of the easiest version of there program to navigate with out any of the flashy styling you really don't need.StarOffice 9 joe I guess now you can get star office for free via Google Pack. I have no idea why SUN is charging for StarOffice while its available FREE via Google Pack, I guess what they probably are charging for is for support. ibrahim hussein Yah, that is what I kept wondering too.
