Toshiba DWC120 2 TB External Hard Drive Makes Clicking Sounds

I have the DWC120 2 TB external hard drive. My laptop does not recognize it. All I hear is a clicking sound. What can be the problem with this drive and how do I fix it? The drive is out of warranty. Can I open this case to take the drive out?
Someone, please help me...I have over a TB of very important data on this drive. I can not loose this information.

The internal hard drive has failed. You can take the internal drive out and re-use the external case with a different hard drive.

As for data recovery, you'll probably have to send the drive out for professional recovery service.

Title: Clicking Sound with Acomdata External Hard Drive
Weblog: GearHack
Excerpt: The clicking sound is from the heads going to the platters and back to park. It does it because the platters are not spinning up, due to a failure. So it keeps retrying. If you are lucky, you might be able to get it to spin up one out of every so many times. If so, have another hard drive ready a . . .
