Keeping Cellphone Awake

Transferring contact information from one cellphone to another is not always the easiest nor the funnest task. In order to keep the battery from dying too quickly, cellphone normally turn off its display after a few seconds. That makes reading the contact info and typing it into the new phone really tedious, as you have to keep manually bring the display back.

Today, I had this trouble transferring data on my aged Samsung A900M to my new Samsung Intercept SPH-M910 Android SmartPhone. The display on the Samsung A900M keeps turning off. Luckily, I could push a button to bring it back without having to start over on the contact list. But after doing it a few times, I found an easier way.

On the Samsung A900M: "Menu" button -> Settings -> Display -> Backlight -> Main Display.

In that option, you can choose from 8 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and Flip open. If you choose the last option, the phone will never turn off while its clam-shell is open. Using this option makes transferring data much easier. Other cellphone probably have a similar option you can exercise to keep it on while transferring data.

On the A900M this option will only work if power saving mode is turned off. You can get to the power saving mode via the following sequence:

"Menu" button -> Settings -> Display -> Backlight -> Pwr Save Mode.
