Palm Pre Smartphone

The Palm Pre Smartphone is an amazing product. Ever since it's unveiling at CES in Las Vegas this January, people have been referring to it is the 'iPhone killer' because it features many of the same applications of the iPhone, such as sensors and touch gestures to enlarge photos and internet pages. It features a slide out keyboard, 8 gigabytes of storage space, and a multi touch three inch color screen. The Palm Pre has topped a list of the 100 hottest gadgets on the planet, sporting a attractive curved appearance and 4.8 ounce weight. A good size comparison to the Palm Pre would be the iPod classic with a big hard drive, and although it may not be as thin as the iPhone, it is an acceptable size considering it's a slider.

The Pre runs on a unique Web OS and looks great- it never seems unresponsive, laggy, or choppy and it's clear that much thought was put into the design, considering its use with fingers instead of a stylus or D-pad. The QWERTY keyboard slides out from underneath the screen, the back of it reflective like the iPhone. The keyboard is in a portrait arrangement, so users of the olders Treo and the Centro will be comfortable with it.

The screen itself is beautiful, which really shows when looking at photos- better than any other phone I've seen.

Surprisingly, the camera of the Pre takes beautiful pictures as well. Colors come out clear and rich, even in lighting that isn't very bright. Though they can appear grainy, they never have that sandy, washed out look that you'd get with other camera phones. Video recording isn't available right now, but Palm is considering it for a future upgrade.

One great feature of the Palm Pre is the ability to run several applications at once. You can listen to music in the internet radio application while surfing the internet. You can't do that on the iPhone. Copy and paste MMS messaging is also available on the Pre, which is something iPhone users have been wanting since it came out.

In all I would say that the Palm Pre transcends what all mobile devices should feel like. Its smoothness does not seem to compromise it's ability to last. The release date is currently for the first half of 2009, and Palm promises a competitive price, and we certainly don't expect anything more than the iPhone 3G.
