Sprint Palm Pre? Think Twice!

I bought this phone last week and I would definitely have to say, it should have been offered to existing customers eligible for new upgrade and new customers for free. The Sprint Palm Pre was hyped up by several sources from the internet to commercials and I will tell you that, it's a TIGHT phone! Well, let me rephrase that. The only thing significant about this phone is being able to have numerous applications running at the same time. Why should we pay $299.99 for that and wait to receive a mail in rebate check when this phone is similar to all other palm products?

The Sprint Palm Pre has several glitches. Problems like: not being able to forward a text message, crappy & blurry camera, and the keypad not responding to the user's request.

The Palm Pre has an extremely poor battery life even when the Bluetooth, Sprint Navigation, and Music Player applications are disabled. I estimate that a normal battery charge lasts about 3 to 4 hours. Majority of cellular phone users do not carry or own a car charger. Although it is essential, it is not needed.

Another accessory that I would say is very well needed is a screen protector. Being that the Palm Pre has a keyboard the user will touch the screen often. The screen protector will protect against scratches, grease, and dirt that can later deteriorate the screen causing it not to respond accurately. A hard or rubber case to protect the phone is very important as well. This will protect the outer cover of your phone.

What if you purchase the Palm Pre and it's too late to return it? Well, if you have had an outside covering on the handset and a screen protector to protect the screen, the phone will have very little to no signs of normal tear & wear and you could sell it to receive great money for it. With this being said, if you plan on purchasing this phone, make sure you have all of the necessary accessories to make your life easier!

Last but not least, let's discuss the camera quality. The Palm Pre has a 3 megapixel camera and no video camera at all. The camera has a low resolution. The resolution is so low that when you take a picture of a human, their eyes glow white. It looks similar to something like a deer in headlights. The Pre also doesn't allow you to record videos, but it allows you to playback videos. What sense does that make?

Overall, I would give the Sprint Palm Pre a rating of 7. It's a nice phone but it has its glitches. These glitches are COMMON glitches for newer released phones, but can harm an individual, company, and carrier. This phone definitely cannot top the Apple Iphone, I'm quite sure or just a regular Blackberry Curve 8330. If you plan on choosing this phone as your primary phone, Think Twice!

I went to check it out the following week after it came out at BB...the BB folks had either iPhones or Blackberries. Two of the folks helping me said they weren't going to give up their iPhones.

I think there's a future for Palm. I like WebOS a lot. Just wish they spent more money for good material for better quality. I'm not as concerned about the lack of features. the iPhone was waaay worse when it first came out. no apps whatsoever. But a lot has changed. the iPhone 3GS put competition back a few more years.

Also, folks have to stop looking at these as phones and start looking at them as mobile computing devices that happens to be able to make phone calls. But I totally dig what you're saying about the battery life. The BB folks said that was one of the biggest issues they don't like the Pre.

By the way, I've got iPhones and G1 in my family. I definitely would take a look at 2nd gen WebOS devices if they're solidly built. Good post, by the way.
