Does Maytag Front Load Washer Only Use 1 Cup of Water?

We just used our new Maytag front load washer for the first time. It is only pouring out approximately 1 cup of water for an entire load of laundry. Is that right???? I really thought it would use alot more water than that. I'm not sure if it is hooked up properly or not. I expected it to fill up at least 1/2 way.
