Netgear Arlo Review: HD Security Camera

You can receive text notifications on Arlo with image support if you use a 3rd party service called Text Me Plz. Pretty easy to integrate, honestly, and I think the text notifications are far superior to their useless push notifications, becuase the images are viewable from your lock screen at a glance. Pretty easy, so check it out at https://textmeplz.com.

Hello,

Excellent review of these cameras. I'm interested in your experience with the new rechargeable batteries. I would like to purchase this system but monitor the live feed all the time on my desktop pc. I am curious how short lived the battery life would be with the live feed running all the time.

Thanks!

I have experienced motion detection problems with these cameras when they are placed behind a glass window. This has been confirmed after having a chat with NETGEAR support.

This is a part of the chat conversation I had with NETGEAR

Ariel: Is there a glass behind the cameras?
Kenneth : yes between both of them. One is the front of the house the other is the rear.
Kenneth : There is glass in front of the cameras not behind
Ariel: Oh I see.
Ariel: That is the reason why the cameras are not detecting motions even if there motions sensors are already enabled.
Ariel: The cameras are not able to detect motions behind insulated glasses.
Kenneth : I did not know that. The product never indicated that that was an issue. It is not practical for me to place the cameras outside because sometimes the temperatures fall out of the required range. I think that I was misled when I purchased these cameras.
Ariel: I really do apologize for the inconvenience. By the way the operating temperature of the camera is between 14 degrees F to 122 degrees F.
Ariel: You may also check this link for more information about how does Arlo's motion detection sensitivity work: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Arlo-Knowledge-Base/How-doe . . .
Kenneth : I know that but it does fall below 14 degrees in Connecticut.

Thank you for this incredibly in-depth review! Thanks to your review, I was able to confirm that a 100-foot range is indeed doable (you are using one at a 150-feet distance).

The main camera will be recording in a portion of the very large backyard where children play. There has been a lot of mischief as of late when we were not around (broken trampoline, etc.). Two families are allowed to use this play area. I am the owner of the (future) Arlo system.

What I would like to know is: when you receive an alert, verify that the people there are legitimate, can the camera be turned off, so it stops recording children legitimately playing, and started again later? I imagine that if it stays on while children play for, say 2-3 hours, it will fill up the cloud and drain the batteries pretty quickly... Especially if my family is away on holiday while the other family isn't...

Any other suggestion that could be useful to my situation?

Thank you.
Julie

Yes. You can turn the motion detection on and off manually through the app. I will let the following screen shot speak for itself. I have never tried this feature. I leave the system on 24/7.

Arlo is the biggest piece of junk for a security camera. Picture is horrible as well as the zoom in and recording feature
