does the idrive torque tube turn freely

My Idrive model 3661-372 has been working great for over five years until this summer.
Somehow the cables got off the spools and wrapped around the outside of the plastic spool covers.
In trying to sort this out I took the tension off the torque tube.
With the motor in the up position and manual release cable pulled, the torque tube does not turn freely in the Idrive.
It is hard to turn and the more I turn it the harder it gets as the spring tension on the torque tube spring builds up. But it does not spring back on its'own. It's still hard to turn in the opposite direction.
My question is should the torque tube turn freely in the Idrive.

Well I reinstalled my TorqueMaster without the idrive. Luckily I have the outside door handle so I can lock the garage.
I took the idrive apart and found out why it is binding. There is a white threaded drum to the left of the motor. There is a black threaded collar that runs back and forth on the white drum as the torque tube turns. When this collar is all the way to the left (door closed) it pulls the motor detent pin so the motor can drop down.

In my case the black collar was overdriven to the right (door open direction) until it hit the right motor detent pin end bearing. This slightly bent the metal tab that holds the bearing, cracked the black collar and damaged some threads on the white drum. The collar was pushed over on one side so it is now cross threaded on the white drum.
I have not been able to find a source for internal idrive parts, so I guess it's toast.
My circuit board does not have a fuse. Maybe it would have saved all this damage if it had a fuse.
