how can i get rid of the power supply? so i can use it like the newer version today. is there a hack for this? thank you in advance

Are you talking the the large (3.5") Western Digital Elements External Hard Drive? The 3.5" drives can't be powered off the USB port (if that's what you are asking); they need too much power.
