Left 4 Dead: Zombies with Knifes

After my co-worker told me about the Left 4 Dead game that is on November 18, 2008, I've been quite excited about it. You basically play by yourself, or as one of four characters online, trying to survive from the zombie on-slaughter. But the 18th is still two weeks away.

So I've decided to modify Counter-Strike: Source to see what the experience is like to be chased by 20 zombies. In this mod, you play as the counter-terrorists. The terrorist group are the zombies. And they can only use knifes. They will walk the map, until they see you. Then all hell will break loose.

It's pretty intense and difficult. So far, I haven't succeeded in eliminating all the zombies yet. I've always died. Now I am looking for some more victims to see if we can do better.

The server configuration is attached below. You can drop it in the dedicated server configuration directory (see "Where to put the Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated Server configuration file?" in the TrackBack section below) and start the server. Make sure you rename it to "server.cfg".

The server defaults to friendly fire off. That doesn't seem interesting at all. In addition, the original script did not allow auto-rotation of maps. In this version, I've change friendly fire to on. That would make the game a lot more hellish in a multiplayer game. And the map auto-rotates after 10 rounds.

I don't see why the players can't use flashlights. In fact, flashlights seems to be an integral part of any zombie scene. So this latest version, attach below, enables flashlights in the game.

This latest configuration bears fruit from weeks of observation; it provides the best balance and least amount of player griefing. It changes round time to 9 minutes, punishes team killing, zombies that chat, and increases bot difficulty.

Hello, I am not sure if you are the operators or owners of the Counter Strike: Source Left 4 Dead Zombies with knives Server, but i really like that server. the thing is though, is that the im not sure if having players on the zombie team was your aim in the matter, but it really seems like players join the zombie team and makes the game extremely unbalanced, so, my suggestion is that if this is not what you meant how the server was meant to be played you should, in my opinion make it so players can join onlt the Counter Terrorist team. Or give someone you trust admin abilitys.

this is just my Suggestion.

You are right. The intent is to only allow players to join the Counter-Terrorist team. Unfortunately, so far, I have not figured out how to prevent players from joining the Terrorist team. If you know a way, I'd love to hear it.

Title: Where to put the Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated Server configuration file?
Weblog: GearHack
Excerpt: As I mentioned in the other thread, I've been attempting to configure the Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated Server for a collaborative campaign. The first thing that needs to be done is to setup the configuration file. It's easy to determine that the server configuration file is named server.cfg and . . .
