Dawn of War II: Developer Console

Most games nowadays have a developer console, where you can type in different commands to change the characteristics of the game. Dawn of War 2 is no exception. Except it took me quite a while to find it. It turns out that you have to load Dawn of War 2 with the "-dev" flag before you can use the developer console. Just add the flag to your Dawn of War 2 shortcut. To make it easier for you, I've attached a pre-made shortcut for you. This shortcut points to the C: drive. If you've installed the game to a different drive, just change the shortcut.

To activate the developer console, press Ctrl-` (backquote).

By the way, there are two different consoles. When you press Ctrl-`, you get a console with a gray background and a "SCAR]" prompt. But if you press ` (backquote) by itself, you get a black console with a "]" prompt. You can switch back and forth between the two. I'm not sure what the difference is yet.

To do this in Steam:

  1. Right click on the Dawn of War II game in Steam
  2. Click on "Properties"
  3. Click on "Set launch options..."
  4. Type "-dev" into the text field.
  5. Click "OK"
  6. Click "Close"

Hmmmm. Am I the only one having trouble with the whole developer tag thing?

Im not sure what I'm doing wrong. (I've downloaded your shortcut, doesn't work...As in, doesnt recognise as a DOWII file in any way)

Ehh. All you need to do is add "-dev" (no quot. marks) to the end of DOW2 ?

This page has some commands that work. You can add to the page as you find more commands:

pretty sure you can just add the -dev to the end of the 'target' box in your desktop shortcut if not using steam.
so: blahblahfilepath\DOW2.exe -dev

im using steam but that technique is how you usually add things like '-dev' (called parameters) to the launch of a program

Flag is command-line arguments for the program that you are trying to execute. Put the arguments at the end of the text in the "target" field.

Every time I add the "-dev" tag to the steam launch options bar the game crashes on start, what has gone wrong? do I need to add this tag to the expansion as well?

Adding -dev to Retribution also crashes on start. I'm adding it to steam... I've tried adding it to other places as well, but there doesn't seem to be any other place to add the switch to in Win7 for a system-recognized game.

I've added the -dev tag to my Steam startup options for DOW2, I load the game just fine and start a mission, but I still can't access the developer console. Ctrl ` and nothing happens?. Is there anything I'm missing? I don't have to use our above shortcut if I'm playing the game through Steam do I?

Type ~ instead of that other thing.

Also (For chaos rising/type the ones for the tomes about 50 times each/make sure you copy the line in an unabridged version): See attached

Enjoy

To, Vincent

I have several ideas, though im not sure about them:
1: you could buy the game (probably not likely that you would want to{but i think its on special right now}).
2: you can download cracked steam (not sure).
3: (my most likley to work idea, though still not likely) right click on shortcut to game, find where it goes, open my computer, search that adress and see if the files are in there?

it's kinda hard to know seeing as i dont have cracked dow2, so sorry if my idea's suck.

innocent (not for long) bystander
