Windows 8.1: "An error occurred installing the TAP device driver."
Windows 8.1 upgrade to Windows 8 apparently resets a number of things on your user account. One thing it clears out is the TAP device driver for OpenVPN.
So I had to reinstall it. But reinstalling OpenVPN 2.3.1-I001 didn't work. Halfway through installation, the setup program for TAP-Windows 9.9.2 reports the error message shown in the screen shot below.
The solution? You have to download the latest OpenVPN version from the OpenVPN community web site. As of this writing, that is version 2.3.2-I003. After downloading this latest version, it will install on Windows 8.1 properly.
tried to download latest version (22.214.171.1244) STILL GOT SAME MESSAGE WINDOW AS ABOVE.
